Earlier this year, Marvel announced a deal with the manga publishing giant Media viewing. This month we’ll finally see the first release of that deal with a manga dedicated to Captain Marvel’s Cat Goose coming out next week, but Marvel isn’t stopping there.
Following the release of a Deadpool manga early next year, a Spider-Man / Iron Man team called Reverse secret. The story sees the wallcrawler and Armored Avenger travel to Japan to fight an “evil game tycoon” and the new evil technology in his possession. Originally published in 2019 as part of a collaboration between Marvel and Shônen jump, it was revealed that the manga would arrive in North America next summer during the Viz’s New York Comic-Con 2021 panel and came with a popping cover featuring the two heroes. The book comes from Kazuki Takahashi, creator of Yu Gi Oh !, whose anime adaptation continues to have an incredible meme impact. It’s far, but it would be pretty amazing if it turned out that they were fighting the overdramatic billionaire Seto kaiba.
The manga’s new push comes as Marvel attempts to return to a medium it sporadically dives into in North America. Apart from this one-shot crossover from 2014 with The attack of the Titans, their biggest foray into the manga was the early to mid-2000s Mangaverse, and it had some wild concepts behind it. Black Panther could become the Falcon with a totem pole, and Helstrom and Ghost Rider were the sons of Satan. For Spidey and Iron Man in particular, things were… interesting. Spider-Man was the last member of a ninja clan whose uncle Ben was killed by Venom on Kingpin’s orders. As for Mangaverse Iron Man? He became a floating head in a jar while his sister Toni took the cloak. However, he still had armor, and they all looked like popular mechas of the time, and they could combine into an even larger mecha called Ultimate Iron Man.
To look for Reverse secret will hit shelves in the summer of 2022.
