A piece set the stage for one of the biggest manga to come for the anime soon with the new opening theme sequence for the series! The anime kicked off its new episodes for 2022 in a major way with the debut of an all new opening theme sequence. Serving as the third opening for the Wano Country arc as a whole, this new opening (like other views in the past) gives fans a first look at what’s to come in fights across Onigashima. But there is something else major the new A piece the opening also teases.

The most recent opening theme is titled “PAINT” as performed by I Don’t Like Mondays, and not only does it tease all the battles that Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates will find themselves in as As the battles through Onigashima continue, there’s also a shadow figure making his debut early in the streak alongside heavy hitters like Gol D. Roger, Whitebeard and Red Haired Shanks. He’s actually a character who gets quite a big reveal in the manga, but still remains a major mystery to the anime.

The new opening theme sequence gives the anime a first look at the silhouette of Rocks D. Xebec, the captain of the now-deceased Pirate Rocks crew. This crew was first brought up before fighting across Wano erupted as the Marines revealed that Kaido, Big Mom, and Whitebeard once belonged to this infamous crew years ago before going out on their own. It was later revealed that Monkey D. Garp had fought with them on an island as he teamed up with Gol D. Roger to put an end to the crew.

He hasn’t been shown in full in the manga or anime yet, but Rocks’ place in the anime’s opening shows just how important the figure is to the story of the series as a whole. The more we learn about Wano, the more we learn about the world at large, so the infamous Pirate Captain’s tease sets the stage for even bigger reveals to come in future episodes of the anime.
