The Vanitas Season 2 or Season 3 Case Study?

The first point of appeal is actually to explain some confusion in the community about whether the next airing of The Vanitas Case Study will be the second or third season.

This is because the first season of the series was divide between two courses (a three-month programming block) during its 24-episode run.

The Case Study of Vanitas Season 1 Part 1 aired from July 2021 to September 2021 with Part 2 airing in January 2022.

Hence, this means that the next project in The Case Study of Vanitas anime adaptation will be season 2 of the TV series.

The future remains bright for The Case Study of Vanitas season 2

While the Vanitas Case Study has yet to be publicly renewed for a second season, the future remains extremely bright for the fan-favorite animated series.

In fact, the opinion that The Case Study of Vanitas is a fan-favorite show is one of the main reasons why the global community is so confident that it will eventually be renewed by Studio Bones. The show is currently rated 7.8/10 on IMDB and 8.9/10 on RatinGraphwith scores of 7.91/10 and 8.23/10 on MyListAnime for the two respective parts of Season 1.

The series was also listed as one of the best anime of 2021 for both Anime News Network and IGN. Additionally, The Case Study of Vanitas was nominated for Best Fantasy in 2022 Crunchyroll Rewards and a total of five nominations for the 2022 Animated Trends Price!

Then we have the fact that Jun Mochizuki’s original manga series that The Case Study of Vanitas anime adaptation is based on is still ongoing, release its ninth Tankobon volume in June 2021.

Anime renewals are often dependent on the source material being available to an animation company, especially since any deviation in an original anime production is usually met with disastrous reception from fans.

This means that with the original manga series still ongoing, there should be plenty of source material available for Studio Bones for a second anime season; further cementing our faith in the eventual return of The Case Study of Vanitas.

The problem is that the return of The Case Study of Vanitas for season 2 could be very long and it all comes back to the manga, see below.

Prepare for a very long wait on The Case Study of Vanitas season 2

While the global community is extremely confident that The Case Study of Vanitas will return with Season 2, fans should be acutely aware that the wait could be very long. It’s because of the source material, or should we say the lack of source material currently available for Studio Bones that could be adapted for a second TV season.

As previously reported, nine volumes of the manga have been released in Japan. The problem is that, by anime geek, episode 24 of the anime is expected to fully scale up to the very last chapter of the manga. Therefore, Studio Bones will have to wait for more manga volumes to be released domestically before they can start working on Season 2.

The bad news is that these new manga volumes aren’t released on a regular schedule, with only three volumes released since October 2019.

If Jun Mochizuki continues to release new volumes on a similar schedule, there likely won’t be enough source material for Season 2 until at least the end of 2024.

Considering that Studio Bones is currently working on season three of Mob Psycho 100, season six of My Hero Academia, and season 4 of Bungo Stray Dogs, there was little chance that production could begin immediately, even if there was sufficient source material available.

All in all, fans should be prepared for a very long wait before The Case Study of Vanitas returns for Season 2; at least in 18 months, but more realistically in more than two years.
